On Wednesday afternoon, 1.FC Union Berlin announced they have progressed closer to the development of their beloved Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.
The statement comes after the club confirmed they successfully completed the subscription period for new shares in their holding company Stadionbetriebs AG.
"We have taken a very important step towards our goal of preparing the Stadion An der Alten Försterei for the next generations.
Thanks to a very robust balance sheet and equity structure, the stadium AG is well equipped for the future," says Dirk Zingler, president of 1. FC Union Berlin and chairman of the supervisory board of the Stadionbetriebs AG.
"I am delighted that so many Union fans have chosen to take this route and personally invest in their stadium. We will continue to pursue this path and push ahead with plans for the new Alte Försterei," Zingler continued.
The club from the Kopenick area of Germany's capital opted to sell shares of their stadium to existing shareholders, members, sponsors and partners of the Union Berlin family for €500 each back in November 2024.
The closing date for purchases of shares was the 5th of February 2025 and an astounding 49,000 shares were applied for in that three-month period. Stadionbetriebs AG now holds a share capital of more than €30million.
While still in its formative stages, the plan is that 1.FC Union Berlin will increase the size of the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei from is current capacity of 22,012 to house 40,500 spectators. Club management estimates work will start in the summer of 2026.
