Manchester United will be thankful for Toby Collyer who pulled off a brilliant goal-line clearance to preserve his side’s slim lead against Fulham.
While the action was anything but thrilling at the Craven Cottage in Sunday’s late kickoff, the home side arguably had the better chances, but just couldn’t capitalise on them. In the end, it was the Red Devils who snatched the lead with their first shot on target. Lisandro Martinez was the unlikely author of the goal.
Perhaps charged by his heated duel against his old rival Adama Traore, the Argentine defender charged forward, tried his luck with a distant shot, and took full advantage of a major deflection that saw the ball rise above the outstretched Bernd Leno who managed to reach the ball, but didn’t put enough to palm it away to safety.
Nevertheless, the Cottagers came extremely close to finding an equaliser when Andreas Pereira was met by the towering header of Joachim Andersen. But while the Dane’s effort was heading straight towards goal, Collyer produced a heroic clearance to keep the Red Devils in the lead.

The young midfielder was standing at the back post, but still had to hustle to reach the ball in the nick of time. While Fulham tried to claim the goal, goal-line technology ensured the English midfielder had done enough to keep it out, which ensured Man Utd escaped West London with three valuable points in the bag.
The 21-year-old replaced Manuel Ugarte in the middle of the second half, and this positive outing will be added a series of brilliant cameos, including the one against Arsenal in the FA Cup.
Collyer has already usurped Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in Ruben Amorim’s pecking order, and was introduced ahead of Kobbie Mainoo this time, proving his status at the club is on a steady rise.
