Paris Saint-Germain secured a spot in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals with a 4-1 victory in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw on aggregate Tuesday night at Anfield.
The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute when Nuno Mendes found Ousmane Dembele in the center, and Dembele quickly passed it to Bradley Barcola on the right. Barcola attempted to return the ball, but Ibrahima Konate’s sliding challenge accidentally set up Dembele for an easy finish.
With neither side able to find a winner in extra time, the match went to penalties. PSG converted all four of their attempts against Alisson Becker, while Gianluigi Donnarumma stood tall in goal.
After conceding a penalty to Mohamed Salah, Donnarumma made crucial saves against Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones. Desire Doue then sealed the win with a calm finish, sending PSG through to the next round.

RMC Sport reports that after the Liverpool-PSG match, Virgil van Dijk spoke with PSG’s management, including Al-Khelaïfi and Luis Campos. He told them that PSG is not just the best team he has faced this season, but the best team he’s faced in the past three seasons.
After defeating Liverpool on Tuesday night at Anfield, PSG now face another Premier League side, Aston Villa, with a spot in the semifinal on the line.
