With Monday's 11pm transfer deadline looming, it looks set to be a busy final day of the window for Sunderland.
Sunderland have emerged as surprise automatic promotion contenders this season under Regis Le Bris, and they currently sit fourth in the Championship table ahead of the game against local rivals Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Monday night.
The Black Cats have made one high-profile addition this month, with midfielder Enzo Le Fee joining on loan from Roma, with an obligation to buy for £20 million if they achieve promotion, while they have also signed striker Wilson Isidor on a permanent basis from Zenit Saint Petersburg for a reported fee of €6 million (£5.02 million) after a successful loan spell.
However, that may not be the end of Sunderland's transfer business, and according to journalist Alan Nixon, the Wearside outfit have joined the race to sign Liverpool striker Jayden Danns on loan.
Danns has scored three goals in nine appearances for the Reds since making his debut last season, and he could be allowed to depart Anfield on loan before the end of the window, but the Black Cats face strong competition for his signature from Blackburn Rovers.
When asked for his thoughts on the potential signing of Danns, FLW's Sunderland fan pundit Jordan Newcombe said he would welcome the arrival of the 19-year-old, but only if it was a straight loan deal, rather than including an obligation to buy in the summer.
Concerns have also been raised over Danns' experience levels compared to other potential targets of the Wearsiders.
"Obviously he's a striker and that's something we need," Jordan said.
"Isidor is too isolated up top at times, Mayenda isn't a striker, he's more of an attacking midfielder and he does well there.
"If we can get another striker in, 100% bring him in, but it's got to be just a loan, do not obligate a buy on a player we know nothing about.
"Just because someone scouts them, it doesn't mean they're the best striker we can get.
"Personally, I think we can get better, but that's only if we spend.
"If we want a decent striker, we have to spend.
"Danns is at Liverpool at the moment, he has experience, but he's not too experienced.
"Personally, I feel we need to go for someone who's been in the field a lot more, someone who has bagged goals and knows the Premier League and Championship like the back of his hand.
"I think that's where we're going wrong, we're either going abroad or we're not looking at all.
"But with Isidor signing a permanent contract now, it does open up another loan spot.
"If we can bring Danns in, then 100 per cent I would try to get him in because he's a striker, but personally, I think we need to be looking at someone with more experience.
"I'd rather just have a normal loan with no obligation to buy, and if this is one of those deals, then 100% I'd get him in, especially as back-up to maybe another striker.
"If we bring in another striker, Danns could be the benched striker in case one gets injured or gets sent off.
"I think it will be a good deal, but only if it's just a loan because we need to stop getting into the habit of buying players that we don't know about.
"If it's only a straight loan, get him in, see what he can do and see if we can get promoted."
Bringing in strikers has been a problem for Sunderland for some time, and even though it has been a significantly improved season this time around under Le Bris, they are still in need of extra firepower.
Danns has shown plenty of potential in his limited appearances for Liverpool over the past year, so he could be a useful addition for the Black Cats, and as Arne Slot is believed to be a big admirer of the striker, it is unlikely the Premier League leaders would be willing to include a buy option in the deal.
However, Blackburn are also hoping to sign Danns on loan, and they may be able to guarantee him regular starts, which could give them an advantage over Sunderland in the race for the England youth interview.
