Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos (30) has not ruled out his side going all the way after their win at Anfield on Tuesday night.

PSG were bullish heading into the second leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 encounter against Liverpool and they were right to be.

PSG dominated the first leg at the Parc des Princes last week but contrived to lose the match. Thwarted by Alisson throughout, Harvey Elliott netted the late winner to give Liverpool a lead to protect heading back to Anfield. No team that had lost to Liverpool at their home ground in the Champions League had then gone on to qualify at Anfield but that changed on Tuesday night.

Ousmane Dembélé levelled the game up on aggregate with a first-half tap-in before the game went to penalties. Darwin Nuñez and Curtis Jones both saw their efforts saved. Les Parisiens scored all four of their penalties as they progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Marquinhos is optimistic of a run deep into the competition. “We don’t have any limits but we always need to improve, not stop here. This match could have been the final but it was just the Round of 16. There is still a lot of work to do,” said the PSG captain.

His sentiment was echoed by PSG manager Luis Enrique, who said that the qualification at Liverpool’s expense was “only the start.”
