According to De Telegraaf, it’s unlikely that Wout Weghorst will be available for Ajax’s all-important clash with PSV this weekend. The striker is still recovering from a broken toe and only ‘a small miracle’ can ensure that he will be part of the Amsterdammer’s match selection.

Weghorst sustained the injury during the away match against Fortuna Sittard (0-2) on Sunday 9 February, and has not played a single minute for Ajax since.

The 32-year-old attacker is currently in a ‘challenging’ race against time to be fit in time for the crucial away match at the Philips Stadion, and the chance that he will be available for coach Francesco Farioli remains slim.

Initially, the towering forward’s focus was on returning to the team for the Europa League match against Eintracht Frankfurt, yet this was simply too soon. The anniversary match against AZ Alkmaar was also too early for the injured striker, and it was ultimately decided to postpone his return over the international period.

De Telegraaf (via VoetbalPrimeur) claims that, ‘If he misses PSV away, he still hopes to be able to play a significant role in the last seven matches.’

PSV and Ajax face each other in Eindhoven on Sunday afternoon, and with a win, the Amsterdammers can increase their lead at the top of the Eredivisie table to nine points.
