In 2012, Mitchell Weiser left FC Köln to join Bayern Munich. He ended up spending three years with the German record champions, making 21 appearances, before moving on in 2015.
But even though the current Werder Bremen wing-back never made the breakthrough he had hoped for at the Bavarian club, he doesn't look back on his move to Bayern as a mistake.
On the contrary, he insists that playing under current Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola at Bayern shaped him as a player.
"I still benefit from my time with Pep Guardiola every day, no other stint has influenced me as much," Weiser told 11Freunde.
“The way I see the game, the way I read it, it's because of Pep. I bet you can ask any footballer who has played under him: Once you've absorbed his vision, you never forget it.”
During his time at Bayern, Weiser had to learn “the hard way” what “working hard” means.
"In that respect, too, Pep was instrumental in my development," said Weiser.
“I was number 23 in his squad and he still talked to me. He always told me exactly what he expected of me, what was important for my position. He took the time to pass on his knowledge.”
