La Liga giants Real Madrid are set to name a new club captain for the 2025/26 campaign.
This comes after confirmation of current Blancos skipper Luka Modrić’s imminent departure from Spain’s capital was at last forthcoming.
As per a statement released across Real’s website and social media platforms on Thursday afternoon:
‘Real Madrid C. F. and our captain Luka Modrić have agreed to bring an end to his unforgettable time as a player at our club following the Club World Cup, which the team is preparing to play starting 18 June in the United States.
‘Real Madrid wishes to express its immense gratitude and appreciation for a player who has become a true legend both of our club and world football.’
So, who is next up in the captaincy pecking order of incoming manager Xabi Alonso’s squad at the Santiago Bernabéu?
As things stand, it is Dani Carvajal who is primed to take up ownership of the armband. The experienced defender, following a long-term spell on the sidelines, is expected to return to action during the upcoming Club World Cup.
Following Carvajal in the captain’s list at Real Madrid are Federico Valverde, Vinícius Jr, and Thibaut Courtois.
