Why Chelsea can’t repeat Tosin deal to bring in elite Bayern star with tons of experience

Joshua Kimmich is one of the more underrated players of the last decade, in part because he’s just quietly been doing his thing at Bayern Munich, where players are expected to excel.
But his consistency, versatility and ability are all though the roof, and it now seems like he’s going to get the chance to show that in an Indian summer abroad. The 30 year old is coming to the end of his contract in Bavaria, and this summer will be able to make a move of his choice.
We’ve seen Arsenal heavily linked in recent days and that’s a move that would make a lot of sense to us. A move to Man City as an Ilkay Gundogan replacement would also seem logical to us.
But the fact that Chelsea are now being linked is a little puzzling. The Blues have a strong focus on bringing in younger players on lower wages. It’s been a controversial policy among fans, but it’s been stuck to pretty religiously by those making the decisions.
Bringing in a veteran on a major salary would go against everything this project is built on. CaughtOffside claim that we’re in the mix, and an experienced central midfielder would do wonders for us in footballing terms. But we just can’t see the rules laid down by those in charge being broken like this.

The exception to their youth transfer policy so far has been Tosin Adarabioyo, who arrived shortly before his 27th birthday. The reason the rule was relaxed in that case was because the former Fulham defender was available on a free, just as Kimmich will be.
But the reality is that Tosin’s wage demands will have been far lower than Kimmich’s, allowing the sporting structure to sign him up without a really damaging commitment.
