Why Chelsea must conclude €30m sale this week to help midfield situation

Well, there are less than two weeks to go in the January transfer window and Chelsea are still seemingly paralyzed with indecision.

Right back at the start of the window we started to hear about the potential sales of several players, and the news about potential departure for Axel Disasi and Renato Veiga developed very quickly. Yet the last few days has seen precious little news on either front. Disasi even came on as a sub in Monday night’s game against Wolves, the surest sign yet that he’s some way off a move.

Veiga on the other hand was left out of the squad entirely, something which manager Enzo Maresca described as a “technical decision.” What that means is that he’s not injured or left out for any other reason. It’s a simple case of him being far enough advanced in talks with another club that it’s better to not include him.

It was reported by Simon Phillips last week that the summer signing has already made it clear to the club that he wants to leave and play more. A hopeful fee of €40m has been talked about.

Time is of the essence in sale which is starting to drag on

If Veiga goes do, it needs to be wrapped up soon. Maresca needs to know what he’s got to work with for the rest of the season, and this sort of delay only hurts our ability to perform on the pitch. Either internally or externally,

What they simply must do after that is figure out what to do in midfield. There’s been talk today of a loan for Douglas Luiz. Whatever happens, it needs to happen soon. Selling Veiga would free up funds for that move, yet another reason to get it done.
