Man City return to Premier League action after booking a place in the FA Cup semi-final as they welcome Ruud van Nistelrooy’s strugglers to the Etihad Stadium.

With City very much embroiled in an intriguing race for Champions League qualification, they can ill-afford to drop points against a team fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table.

Having let a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with Brighton prior to the international break, pressure will be on Man City to return to winning ways - especially with a huge Manchester derby on the horizon.

However, Guardiola will be absent from the dugout at the Etihad against the Foxes as a result of dissent during the FA Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth.

Guardiola was shown a yellow card for complaining to the fourth official during the second half at the Vitality Stadium and it appeared to be in relation to the Erling Haaland substitution.

Even though the booking came in the cup tie, rules state it still counts towards the Premier League total and that means Guardiola has now been booked three times across all competitions this season.

The first came against Arsenal back in September and the second followed a month later in the win over Fulham. As a result, he will be absent from the touchline on Wednesday night.

Unlike rules for players, there is no cut-off point for bookings for managers. Therefore a manager can be at risk of a suspension for three bookings right up until the penultimate fixture of the season.

Guardiola will next be at risk of a touchline ban if he accumulates eight yellow cards, or if he is given a straight red card.
