Why Rodrygo was left out of Real Madrid’s squad to face Celta Vigo | OneFootball

An explanation for the absence of Real Madrid star Rodrygo from the club’s latest squad has on Saturday been provided.

Real Madrid are of course set to return to action on Sunday afternoon.

In the knowledge that nothing but a three-point haul will suffice amid efforts to hunt down arch rivals Barcelona atop the La Liga table, Los Blancos will play host to Celta Vigo.

A number of high-profile absences, as expected, highlighted Real’s squad for the matchup, with the likes of David Alaba, Ferland Mendy, Eduardo Camavinga and Antonio Rüdiger missing out.

One omission which did mark a surprise on Saturday, though, was that of Rodrygo. The Brazilian was expected to feature from the off against Celta, with his complete absence from Los Merengues’ ranks having therefore given rise to fears surrounding a potential injury.

If ensuing word stemming from the media is anything to go by, however, then no such fitness issue has in fact been noted.

Instead, as per journalist Sergio Quirante of DAZN:

‘Rodrygo is out of the squad due to a cold and a slight fever. The club has decided not to allow him to participate in the training camp to avoid possible contagion.’
