FC Barcelona went into the last summer transfer window with a surplus of players for the center-back position. However, owing to injuries suffered by Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen, Inigo Martinez, and Pau Cubarsi have been the two players who have consistently played in the center of the defense this season.
Some of the center-backs present in the Barcelona squad have uncertain futures at the Blaugrana club, with several reports linking Andreas Christensen with a move away from the club.
Meanwhile, the Blaugranes have also been linked with a new defender, the German Jonathan Tah, whose contract with Bayer Leverkusen is ending at the end of this season.
Being one of the top defenders in Bundesliga, and being free next summer, Tah’s demand has increased significantly in the last few months.
Bayern Munich are one of the sides looking to incorporate him into their squad, while Real Madrid are also interested in him since Eder Militao’s injury. Furthermore, some clubs from the Premier League have also entered the race to sign him.
However, for now, there is nothing certain about his future, other than the €30 million-rated player’s decision that he is not going to continue playing at Leverkusen beyond this season.
Mundo Deportivo has provided an update on this matter and reveals that the player has not yet made a decision about his future as of now.
Their report also claims that the defender is going to wait till January, when he will be able to negotiate freely with any club, to make a decision about his future. Early February is the latest when he will make a decision about his new club.
The German defender was already willing to join Barcelona last summer, when Leverkusen were not convinced by Barcelona’s offer. Thus, there is everything to hope that he will once again be open to joining the Catalan side, especially with Hansi Flick, a coach under whom he has already played, in charge of the Blaugrana team.
