AEK Athens considering a move for Standard Liege head coach Ivan Leko | OneFootball

Sacha Tavolieri has revealed that Greek giants AEK Athens are considering a move to bring in Standard Liege head coach Ivan Leko. According to Tavolieri, Leko would prefer to stay in Belgium for family reasons. However, he also remains open to potential discussions with the Greek club.

It would not be a surprise to see Leko leave this summer. Standard are struggling financially and he has done an exceptional job considering the circumstances. Leko is usually known for his attacking football but has completely flipped his tactics around this season by going more defensive due to a lack of attacking options. It saw Standard qualify for the second play-offs in pole position, although they have been unable to sustain their challenge to win the post-season tournament and potentially qualify for Europe.

With Standard unlikely to be able to offer Leko much in terms of improving the squad this summer, a move to Greece in footballing terms would certainly be appealing.
