Tulliio Tinti, the agent of Milan defender Matteo Gabbia, has confirmed that he and his client are set to sit down with Rossoneri representatives to discuss a new contract in the near future.

Tinti says they still have to discuss the finer details, but confirms that Milan have contacted him to discuss the possibility of a new contract for the recently-called up Italy defender.

Gabbia set for Milan contract talks, agent confirms

“He’s made the step up over the last two seasons, he’s aware of what he has to offer,” Tinti told TMW reporters on Monday. “He is a great guy and an important player, he’s earned everything himself. He started lower down in the pcking order, but he’s earned his place through his performances.

“We will talk soon, they’ve called me and we will discuss it soon. He’s really happy, he’s worn the Milan shirt since he was a little boy, so he’s really happy to be able to renew and have this appreciation from the management. Obviously, we still need to discuss (the details).”

Gabbia, who has been on Milan’s books since he was a teenager back in 2012, has not always been handed opportunities in the first-team, but has clawed his way into Paulo Fonseca’s side this season and has arguably been the team’s most consistent centre-back this term.

The 24-year-old started behind Fikayo Tomori, Strahinja Pavlovic and Malick Thiaw in the Milan pecking order at the start of this season, but has started in all five of the Rossoneri’s last matches across all competitions.

The highlight of his season so far came in the Derby della Madonnina against Inter, when he netted the winner for an under-pressure Milan side, which provided just their second Serie A win of the season.
