Real Madrid may have to make do without any major trophy this season, but it appears the club are determined to end the campaign on a positive note.
In their final away game of the season, Los Blancos secured a 2-0 win over Sevilla, largely thanks to a good second half showing.
Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe found themselves on the scoreline, ensuring Real Madrid finish the campaign on a high note and giving Carlo Ancelotti the ideal sendoff.
Speaking to the media after the game, Ancelotti talked about how the team performed against Sevilla, notably pointing out the two red cards received by the opposition.
“We had the advantage of superiority over the two reds. There wasn’t much rhythm, we played without risk and could have done better, but with the numerical advantage we didn’t need to make too much effort,” he said.
Sevilla were indeed depleted early on in the game, with Loic Bade picking up a red card in the 12th minute. The team received its second red moments after the second half, with Isaac Romero also being sent off.
These red cards gave Real Madrid a huge advantage. But Ancelotti didn’t take anything away from his team’s effort, especially the way the youngsters played on the night.
In fact, the Italian tactician heaped praise on the work done by Raul, the reserve team coach, to nurture a host of talented academy prospects.

“I think Raúl has done a great job with these players because they’ve made a lot of progress. Raúl has had a season with the same difficulties I’ve had, a lot of injuries, but he’s been able to get the best out of his team and, above all, help the young players progress,” he said.
Ancelotti went on to praise one player in particular, Jacobo Ramon, who had yet another strong outing against Sevilla.
“To be in the first team you have to follow the examples of Nacho, Carvajal or Lucas. You have to fight and have the dream of being at Real Madrid,” he said about the defensive prospect.
Ancelotti even claimed that Ramon is currently at the same level as Asencio, despite the fact that the latter has accumulated considerable experience at the highest level now.
“He’s at the same level as Asencio. He had a fairly long injury that kept him out until January. He’s tall, powerful in duels, and quite quick.
“The problem is that he’s a shy kid and hasn’t shown all his qualities. He needs more time, but I think he can be in the Madrid squad in the future,” he added.
Finally, Ancelotti talked about the future of Luka Modric, whose contract expires at the end of the season, with the player uncertain whether or not his contract will be renewed.
“Everyone knows how much Madrid and the Madrid fans want Luka Modric. I’m sure the club and the player will make the best decision for the future,” Ancelotti said on Modric’s future.
Despite the uncertainty, though, recent reports do suggest that Xabi Alonso has requested Real Madrid to renew the contract of Modric, so it won’t be surprising to see the veteran midfielder continue for another year.
