Andre Onana is determined to remain with Manchester United beyond this season, a report has claimed, despite head coach Ruben Amorim's apparent desire to sign a replacement.
Onana has struggled following his £47.2m switch from Inter in 2023. While he has enjoyed some undeniably impressive showings, a series of unforced errors has left the Cameroon international facing significant pressure.
It has been reported that Amorim is keen to replace Onana this summer as part of a major squad rebuild but, according to the Manchester Evening News, the player himself is not looking to give up his squad.
It is stressed that Onana is "intent" on remaining with United, who he sees as the "only club" he wants to play for. The goalkeeper did recently change agents but that is not believed to have anything to do with a future transfer.
Such a stance would represent a huge blow for United's transfer plans as Amorim has publicly confessed the Red Devils need to sell players before they can buy fresh. The expected departure of understudy Altay Bayindir is unlikely to generate the funds needed to find a high-level stopper.
Publicly, Amorim has opted to stand by Onana, urging him to "forget the past" after he came under fire for his role in both of Ipswich Town's goals in the recent 3-2 victory.
Work is continuing behind the scenes in search of a new stopper, however. Rumoured target Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp has openly admitted he would listen to an approach, while the likes of Borussia Dortmund's Gregor Kobel and Brighton & Hove Albion's Bart Verbruggen have been touted as potential candidates.
