Arne Slot Made Costly Error Not Bringing in Liverpool Ace With Experience Against Gianluigi Donnarumma

Gianluigi Donnarumma was the star in the penalty kick shootout as Paris Saint-Germain won 4-1 over Liverpool after the two sides were leveled 1-1 on aggregate.
The game went to penalties after neither side scored in extra time. PSG converted all four of their attempts against Alisson Becker, while Gianluigi Donnarumma stood strong in goal for the visitors.
After conceding a penalty to Mohamed Salah, Donnarumma made key saves against Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones. The shootout wrapped up when Desire Doue calmly scored the final penalty, sending PSG through to the next round.
Nonetheless, one journalist wonders why manager Arne Slot didn’t substitute a player who faced Donnarumma in a penalty kick situation and was a teammate with the shot-stopper to offer any pointers to his teammate.

In his Henry Winter’s Goal Post newsletter, journalist Henry Winter questioned why Federico Chiesa didn’t come off the bench, especially as it seemed the contest would be heading toward a penalty kick shootout. Moreover, the Liverpool outcast is two for three in a penalty kick situation.
“Why does he not use Federico Chiesa more?” Winter wrote. “The Italian is good enough to have won a European Championship. He brings energy from the bench. He’s in better shape at the moment than Cody Gakpo, who got on the field.
“Chiesa is not a regular penalty-taker but his record is still three taken, two converted. The miss was against Gianluigi Donnarumma when the keeper was at AC Milan and Chiesa at Fiorentina. Donnarumma has a well-established knack of penalty-saving.”
