The brass at Premier League giants Arsenal have kicked into gear an all-out attempt to stave off the interest of Real Madrid in a key member of the club’s backline.

That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards William Saliba as the player in question.

The name of defender Saliba has of course proven an altogether prominent one in the media headlines in Spain over recent weeks.

This comes amid the widespread understanding that the Frenchman has been earmarked as a leading transfer target on the part of the aforementioned Real Madrid.

Amid an ongoing search for reinforcements at centre-back, Los Blancos have earmarked Saliba as the ideal profile.

Such claims have given rise to understandable panic behind the scenes at Arsenal, nothing short of desperate to keep hold of their defensive stalwart.

So much so that the Gunners have drawn up an ‘anti-Real Madrid plan’.

As per the aforementioned AS, in an effort not to allow Los Blancos to convince Saliba to run his contract in north London down:

‘Andrea Berta (new sporting director at The Emirates) has initiated an anti-Madrid plan to protect Saliba. Contract negotiations have intensified in recent days to reach an agreement as soon as possible.’
