Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta revealed that Thomas Partey "felt something" during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Brentford, casting doubt over his availability for next week's crucial Champions League tie against Real Madrid.

Partey played the full 90 minutes in Arsenal's 3-0 victory over the defending European champions at the Emirates Stadium last Tuesday. The defensive midfielder was one of the few starters from that quarter-final first leg to line up from the outset against Brentford on Saturday.

The makeshift right-back scored the opening goal of an entertaining league clash but was forced off before Yoane Wissa swivelled to hook in an equalising goal for the visitors.

"He felt something so we didn't want to take any risks," Arteta told reporters after Saturday's match. "We don't know, I haven't spoken to the doctors yet. So they will check him now and see how he is."

Arsenal only have three days to recover before heading to the Spanish capital for an almighty Champions League clash. Real Madrid's players have been bullish about their chances of mounting an unlikely comeback at the Santiago Bernabeu and Arsenal will need as many key players available as possible to avoid a spectacular collapse.

First-choice centre-back Gabriel and starting striker Kai Havertz will both miss the trip to Spain while there are serious doubts surrounding Ben White. The buccaneering right-back was not in contention to face Brentford, prompting Arteta to admit that he didn't know whether White would be available for the European adventure. "So he could not be in a condition to be in the squad today and be selected. So we have a few days but we'll have to wait and see."

Gabriel Martinelli managed to come through Saturday's draw unscathed despite finding himself on the sharp end of a scissor-tackle from Christian Norgaard which only earned the Danish midfielder a yellow card. "If my foot was on the floor, he could break my leg," the angry Brazilian told Sky Sports after the game.

"He [Norgaard] said he didn't mean it. I believe him but still he could have broke my leg. For me it was red. I need to see it again to be sure. But for me it was nasty."
