FC Barcelona have had Marcus Rashford of Manchester United at the top of their transfer wishlist for the winter window.

With the forward having fallen out of favour at Old Trafford, the Blaugrana have been hoping to sign him on loan until the end of the season, with the player himself keen on the switch.

Talks have taken place between Manchester United and Barcelona in recent days, but it appears that the chances of the deal going through are very slim.

Barcelona consider deal practically impossible

Indeed, as per journalist Matteo Moretto, Barcelona have come to terms with the fact that signing Rashford in the winter transfer window is practically impossible.

Despite the Catalan club’s interest in the Manchester United forward, the deal has become increasingly complicated due to a lack of salary space in the squad.

There have been new discussions between Barcelona and Rashford himself in recent hours. However, the club’s sporting management understands that for the forward to join, it would be essential to free up salary space by offloading a player.

As of now, neither Ansu Fati nor any other potentially transferable player is willing to leave the Catalan capital. With this in mind, the deal is at a standstill and Barça are considering pulling the plug on the operation.

With just over two days left in the transfer window, neither party can afford for the situation to become stagnant, leading Rashford’s entourage to explore other alternatives.

The main idea remains for the forward to leave Manchester United this winter, which is why his representatives are offering him to other Premier League clubs now.

Several clubs have begun to activate their strategies to try to sign the Manchester United forward. Among them, Aston Villa has emerged as one of the primary contenders to secure Rashford’s services.

As such, Barcelona’s chances of signing Rashford in the final days of the winter window appear to be very small, unless there is a significant turnaround.
