The Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid in January 2023 was when Gavi peaked at Barcelona before his injury and will go down as one of his best performances in the Blaugrana colours ever.

He was, after all, the best man in Xavi’s team on the night as he ravaged through Los Blancos in the finale and was named the man of the match.

He missed the tournament last year as part of the one year he spent on the sidelines after an ACL injury and it is only poetic that he racked up one goal and one assist upon his return to the competition earlier this week.

As related by AS, however, it is no coincidence as Gavi had set the ongoing tournament as his target a long time ago.

The target all along

When the La Masia graduate injured his knee against Georgia on international duty, he was told he would require at least twelve months on the sidelines before he returned to the field and fourteen months to recover complete physical normalcy.

The midfield prodigy met the deadline quite promptly and did not rush his recovery at any stage. Upon his return, the management was also cautious about managing his game time.

However, the Spanish outlet reveals that Gavi always had the Spanish Super Cup marked in red on his calendar and saw it as the target for which he must be back to 100%.

He has indeed returned to his best version now and shone against Athletic Club in the semifinal, scoring once and providing one assist on the night.

Gavi was Barcelona’s best player on the night and will look to do the same later today.

Facing Real Madrid in the ultimate finale, the young Spaniard is reportedly set to start ahead of Dani Olmo.

The La Masia gem may not feature for the entire 90 minutes, but it is an open secret that he will give his all during every minute he breathes on that field.
