After having won 4-0 in their last La Liga encounter, FC Barcelona once again thrashed Real Madrid last night in the Spanish Super Cup final as they emerged victorious with a 5-2 scoreline.
With this win, the Blaugranes got their first trophy under Hansi Flick, and there could not have been a better morale-booster after the poor end of 2024 that they had.
Although things did not reach a boiling point, there was still a lot of tension between the two teams in last night’s encounter, and players from both sides did not pull back whenever they got the chance to put in a strong tackle or a kick.
Thus, it was a game in which the Barcelona midfielder Gavi usually thrives, as his passion and commitment to the team are two of the most notable characteristics of his game.
As was the case in the 2023 Spanish Super Cup final, the midfielder was once again decisive in this game, as he won the penalty that was converted by Robert Lewandowski to score his side’s second goal on the night.

However, as SPORT has noted, an event after the full-time whistle showed the other side of the Barcelona midfielder, the more gentlemanly one.
Gavi crossed paths with the Real Madrid President, Florentino Pérez, after the end of the game, and while undertaking a brief chat with him, thanked him for the message of support that Florentino had sent him when he was injured in 2023.
“I wanted to thank you for the letter you sent me when I got injured”, said the La Masia graduate to the Merengue club’s top official.
This interaction was somewhat surprising from a player who usually shows his most aggressive side whenever he faces Real Madrid. But this was another proof of Gavi’s sporting spirit, which, along with his other more prominent characteristics, makes him such a special player.
