Having recently announced the contract extension of coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona are now currently working on the renewal of two key forwards in Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.

While Raphinha’s contract extension appears to be a done deal, there is some work still to be done on Yamal’s front.

The club initially had an agreement in place that would have seen the forward sign a long-term deal once he turned of legal age. But the terms of that contract are now irrelevant, now that the teenage sensation has established himself as one of the best in the world.

Barcelona looking to avoid a mishap in Yamal saga

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona do not want to take any risks with regards to Lamine Yamal’s transfer saga.

The club are racing against time to finalise a new deal before the youngster leaves for his summer break after Barça’s game in Bilbao on Sunday.

With Jorge Mendes flying into Barcelona on Thursday, the club are accelerating negotiations to close the agreement by Monday.

Although Yamal cannot legally sign a long-term contract until he turns 18 on July 13, both parties are keen to get all the terms locked in beforehand.

Barça fear that a successful Nations League campaign with Spain in June could attract ‘astronomical’ offers from top clubs, potentially disrupting talks if a new deal isn’t signed soon.

The proposed new deal would keep Yamal at the club until 2030, with a salary fitting for a player who has taken the football world by storm since last summer’s European Championship.

Despite the confidence within the club that Lamine wants to stay, Barça are leaving nothing to chance.
