After starting the season without several of their important players due to injury, FC Barcelona have not been as bothered by physical concerns lately.

Long-term absentees like Marc Andre Ter Stegen, Marc Bernal, and Andreas Christensen continue to remain unavailable for Hansi Flick, while Marc Casado has also entered this list after his knee injury in the last game against Atletico Madrid.

There is no doubt that this is a significant blow for the Blaugranes, but on the other hand, the Danish defender Andreas Christensen should be nearing his return to training if he meets the deadlines set for his return from the soleus injury.

The Dane remains the player with the least minutes in the Catalan team, as he has spent the entire season on the sidelines.

He played 26 minutes in the first game of the season against Valencia, but since then he has been unable to play, first because of an injury to the Achilles tendon, then to the soleus of the right foot, and then because of a relapse of this latter injury.

He is likely to train at Ciutat Esportiva in the current international window and may be available for the upcoming match against Girona, but he is more likely to be able to return to the pitch for the match against Real Betis.

Furthermore, according to SPORT, Christensen might also see his importance in the team increase in this last phase of the season, as Flick will need all of his players available to contribute in the highly hectic schedule ahead.

Marc Casado’s injury means he is more likely to play as a midfield pivot, even though other options like Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, and Eric Garcia are available. The Dane has already played in this position under Xavi.

But if Garcia plays in the midfield, it will open the way for Christensen to get some minutes in the defense.

Thus, it is quite likely that after spending the entire season with almost no minutes, the 28-year-old Barcelona defender will see his importance increase in the end.
