Barcelona set to extend the contract of 18-year-old La Masia talent | OneFootball

Since arriving at the club last summer, Jan Virgili has proven to be a vital asset for Barcelona’s youth teams.

The 18-year-old was an integral member of the Juvenil A setup that won the Copa del Rey under Juliano Belletti last week and has made it to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League. He has also featured quite a bit for the reserve team.

Contract extension imminent

Now, according to SPORT, Jan Virgili will extend his contract with Barcelona imminently, possibly as early as today.

The 18-year-old winger had signed only a one-year contract with Barcelona when signing from Nastic in the summer of 2024.

However, the agreement included a clause allowing the Blaugrana to unilaterally extend his stay for two additional seasons.

Given Virgili’s impressive performances in his first season at the club, Barcelona’s technical staff made an early decision in mid-March to activate the extension.

Virgili’s role next season remains uncertain, as it will depend on whether Barça Atletic retain their place in the Primera RFEF or get relegated to the Segunda RFEF.

For now, Virgili continues to train with the reserve squad but will also support the Juvenil A team in their Youth League campaign.

The teenage winger’s next major target is the quarter-final clash against Stuttgart on April 2, where Barcelona will seek a place in the semi-final in Nyon, Switzerland.
