FC Barcelona and Barcelona Serveis Municipals (BSM) have signed an agreement extending the club’s use of the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic until 20 May – two days after their final La Liga home match against Villarreal, confirms Mundo Deportivo.

The Catalan giants had initially requested the extension on 30 January after confirming that a Rolling Stones concert scheduled for May would no longer take place.

While verbal approval had already been granted, the agreement is now formalised in writing, as confirmed by club sources. This ensures that Barcelona can complete the season without relocating.

What about a return to Spotify Camp Nou?

Now, the Blaugrana are still evaluating whether it makes financial sense to return to the Spotify Camp Nou before the season ends, provided construction progress allows a safe return with a 62,000-seat capacity across the first and second tiers.

The pitch installation at the stadium is planned for late April.

If the team were to return to Camp Nou this season, several temporary solutions would need to be put in place, including installing lighting towers, modifying the press room, and making adjustments to the dressing rooms.

Regardless, Barcelona are set on returning to the new Spotify Camp Nou permanently in September.

The La Liga leaders have ruled out starting a third season at the Estadi Olimpic or operating two venues simultaneously.

If they were to begin the Champions League campaign at Montjuic, UEFA regulations would require them to complete the group stage there, meaning a full move back to Camp Nou would be delayed until January.

As such, they intend to move back to their original home ground before the league phase kicks off.
