Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski on Tuesday night moved a step closer to equalling an all-time Champions League record.
This comes owing to developments in Barcelona’s meeting with Benfica.
Hansi Flick’s troops are of course fresh off the most remarkable of comeback victories on Tuesday night.
After making the trip to Lisbon for a Champions League clash, the Blaugrana found themselves two goals down inside the game’s closing quarter of an hour.
From here, though, nothing short of a historic turnaround was on the cards.
After Barca managed to claw themselves level inside the game’s final minutes, Raphinha broke free to slot home a decisive 9th goal of the fixture deep into injury-time.
The Brazilian was on target to the tune of a brace on the night, as was attacking partner-in-crime Robert Lewandowski.
Both of the latter’s goals came via the penalty spot, either side of half-time.
And, owing to such exploits, veteran frontman Lewandowski has positioned himself in an altogether exclusive goalscoring club in Europe’s premiere club competition.
As revealed by statisticians Opta, owing to his 18th in the competition, the 36-year-old has joined Lionel Messi as the player with the 2nd-most penalties scored in Champions League history.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo (19) has more.
