Barcelona star forward ready for Spanish Super Cup but not without conditions | OneFootball

Following a 4-0 win over Barbastro in the Copa Del Rey, Barcelona’s focus will shift to the Spanish Super Cup.

The Catalans are slated to take on Athletic Club in the semifinals on Wednesday and given their recent struggles, the club will bank on its top players.

One of the players Barcelona coach Hansi Flick will be hoping to have at his disposal is Lamine Yamal, who has been struggling with injuries.

Will Yamal play against Athletic Club?

A recent report from Diario SPORT has offered a fresh update on Yamal’s fitness, revealing that the forward should be ready for Spanish Super Cup action.

However, Yamal’s potential return to action in Saudi Arabia comes with a question mark. The player has not had much action on the grass lately.

As such, there is no certainty as to whether or not the Spaniard is fit enough to start against Athletic Club on Wednesday.

Yamal has been out of action since mid-December when he picked up a knock against Leganes. This was the second time the attacker had picked up an injury.

The forward, though, did do some work with the group on January 2, thereby raising optimism surrounding his participation in the Spanish Super Cup.

But as mentioned earlier, there is no guarantee Yamal will start given the fact that he has not played in a while.

Therefore, Barcelona are expected to closely monitor the player’s progression in the near future and then make a final decision regarding his participation against Athletic Club.

Given Yamal’s fitness record this season, it is unlikely Barcelona would want to take any risks with the star forward.
