Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez rejected January approaches from both Aston Villa and Manchester United, according to a report in Spain.

21-year-old Fermin is proving to be a key squad player for Barca boss Hansi Flick and ended January by stealing the show in a 7-1 win over Valencia, netting two goals and racking up a further two assists for good measure.

According to SPORT, Fermin's impressive form has caught the eye of a number of top sides. Both Villa and United are said to have tried to convince him to move to the Premier League, indicating a willingness to pay a transfer fee of €70m (£58.3m) to get a deal done.

Fermin, however, snubbed the approaches and made it clear his focus is on establishing himself at Barcelona.

Barcelona pledged their commitment to Fermin in October 2024 when he inked a new five-year contract with a release clause of €500m (£416.5m), meaning they are under no pressure to entertain offers.

It was recently reported that United are preparing a major squad overhaul in the summer transfer window, declining to spend significantly in January in order to put themselves in the strongest possible decision for the upcoming transfer window.

However, the belief is that United will once again need to finance their spending through player departures, which raises questions about their ability to fund such a significant move for Fermin.
