Barcelona star Marc-André ter Stegen has forwarded a message of support the way of the club’s women’s team.
This comes after a heartbreaking day for Barca Femení on Saturday.
Pere Romeu’s troops made the trip to Lisbon, Portugal yesterday evening, for a crunch women’s Champions League finale showdown with WSL side Arsenal.
The Blaugrana headed into the matchup with sights on a historic quadruple, having again looked the best side in Europe over the length of the campaign.
Despite having boasted heavy favourite status, however, Barca Femení were ultimately condemned to the wrong side of a 1-0 result.
The likes of Aitana Bonmatí and Clàudia Pina were left looking nothing short of devastated following the full-time whistle at The Estádio José Alvalade, consoled by club president Joan Laporta.
And as alluded to above, since sending a message of encouragement the way of Barcelona’s women’s stars, too, has been a member of Hansi Flick’s men’s squad.
In a post on his official Instagram account, as cited by Marca, Blaugrana captain Marc-André ter Stegen wrote:
“It’s not the ending we all expected, but the journey you’ve taken has been fantastic. We’re proud of this team. The best is yet to come.”
