Barcelona won their first trophy of the 2024/25 season – the first of the Hansi Flick era – last weekend when they absolutely demolished Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final in Jeddah.

Having gone without a trophy last season and coming into the new year under intense scrutiny due to the registration problems and poor form in the back end of 2024, the victory against Real Madrid could not have been any sweeter for Barça.

Even though they conceded the early lead, Flick’s brigade absolutely tore their arch-rivals to shreds and if not for Wojciech Szczesny’s second-half red card, the scoreline could have been much more dominant.

Laporta sanctions bonuses for players

On the back of their success in the Spanish Super Cup, Barcelona players are set to be rewarded financially by the club, reports AS.

Indeed, the first title of the Flick era will bring an extra financial reward for the players.

It was club president Joan Laporta himself who made this commitment, taking advantage of the euphoria of the moment during the return flight, vowing to pay a financial ‘bonus’ as thanks for such a spectacular victory.

The players, naturally, responded to the Blaugrana president’s initiative with loud cheers and enthusiastic applause.

The exact amounts are yet to be finalised, but the reference point is expected to be the figures from two years ago, after Barcelona won the Super Cup against Real Madrid.

On that occasion, each player received €100,000, while staff members were awarded €10,000.

It is important to note that at Barcelona most titles already have bonuses outlined in the contracts of the first-team players. For La Liga, the Champions League, and the Copa del Rey, the bonuses are predetermined, usually amounting to around €1 million.

For the Copa del Rey, however, the bonus is only applicable if it is won alongside another title, meaning that if only the cup is won, no additional bonus is granted.

The Spanish Super Cup, however, is not included in the contracts, meaning any bonus related to this tournament must be negotiated directly with the club’s management.
