FC Barcelona wants to secure its own players and retain their biggest stars for as long as possible. For the Catalan giants, especially in their state of financial limitations, retaining their star players is a massive objective. In the past, certain operations have hurt Barcelona and they no longer wish to let such issues reappear.
Following the surprise departure of Ousmane Dembele to Paris Saint-Germain, it was clear to see that Barcelona was unhappy with the entire debacle. Even now, as comparisons are made with the new Ronald Araujo situation, the club remains committed to finding ways to properly secure their players.
However, even in the case of Araujo’s recent renewal, one that will last until 2031, Barcelona has decided to try out something different. With no official release clause mentioned by the club, there is only speculation over what his actual release clause even is.
Conflicting reports have emerged, with some believing the release clause to be around €65 million while others suggest that it could be around €300 million. However, the reality is that Barcelona has done this on purpose this time around.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will no longer be publicly revealing the release clauses of their players. Just as they have done for Ronald Araujo’s new contract renewal, they will do the same for the other contract negotiations and announcements that are coming up.
Both Araujo and Gerard Martin’s new contracts have been officially announced without their official release clauses attached to said announcements. The reason behind this is that Barcelona finds it unnecessary to provide any additional information such as this, especially to rival clubs in the market.
Instead, Barcelona wants those clubs to directly confirm the clause from them. However, at the same time, the player’s agents could also share that information but the club itself wishes to refrain from openly announcing those release clauses to the public.
Now, moving forward, that will become the norm as well. Pedri’s new deal already has a verbal agreement on it, and whenever the actual signing of the contract or official announcement comes around, it is quite likely that Barcelona will not openly reveal the player’s release clause.
