Leroy Sane was one of the star performers for Bayern Munich against Mainz on Saturday. The German winger should have walked away with the match ball as he hit the woodwork twice in the second half and scored Die Roten’s first goal of the game.
The German winger scored his 10th league goal of the season, his best tally since joining Bayern in 2020. He is certainly enjoying life under Vincent Kompany and remains determined to stay at the club beyond this season.
According to Bild, Bayern have agreed a new deal with Leroy Sane. The German winger had a contract expiring at the end of the season, but both parties are nearing an agreement for a new deal. Sane has decided to take a pay cut on his current terms to stay in Munich. He will sign a three-year deal with a salary of €10 million fixed and €5 million in bonuses.
Bild has also reported that Al-Ittihad had presented a lucrative offer to Sane, but the German winger was more keen on staying in Munich. The former Schalke forward feels settled in Munich and was committed to do everything from his end to make a contract extension possible.
After the win against Mainz, Director of Sport, Max Eberl, was quizzed about negotiations with Sane. He insisted that talks have taken place with the German winger. Bild had reported that a new contract will be finalized next week.
The club chiefs were reportedly divided in terms of offering a new deal to Sane due to his inconsistent performances since arriving from Manchester City in 2020. However, the player’s commitment to stay in Munich and marked improvement in performances during the second half of the season have won over the board.
Bayern have plans to strengthen the wide areas during the summer transfer window, which suggests Sane will have significant competition for a place in the starting XI. The Bavarian club will likely part ways with Kingsley Coman. The French forward is also open to the idea of departure in the summer.
Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry remains determined to stay in Munich. The German forward has one year left on his contract. Bayern are ready to listen to offers for him, but the former Arsenal forward is keen on running down his contract. Sane and Gnabry will be senior wingers in the squad, while the new addition and Michael Olise will provide the youth flair next season.
