Having sealed passage, five days earlier, through to the round of 16 of the ongoing 2024/25 European Champions League with a vital, but uninspiring, 1-1 draw at home against Celtic, Bayern Munich resumed action in the Bundesliga on Sunday by welcoming third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt to the Allianz Arena.

With Harry Kane, Dayot Upamecano and Alphonso Davies all absent from the starting XI there was genuine reason for concern with regard to both the attack and the defense. However, thanks to a solid team performance Die Roten convincingly won the matchday 23 encounter by a score of 4-0. Let’s now take a look at some interesting takeaways from the pleasantly surprising dominant victory.

Resourceful in attack and resilient in defense

With Bayern having struggled to collectively find the back of the net and to keep a clean sheet in their last three games, the Bavarian faithful would have been able to breathe a sigh of relief following Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Frankfurt.

In the absence of Harry Kane for the first 64 minutes, Bayern’s starting attacking quartet of Thomas Muller, Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, and Leroy Sané did well to impose themselves on the game albeit without an early goal to show for their efforts. Olise’s goal in first-half added time to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at the interval was nothing short of deserved.

At the other end of the pitch, the back four, despite an early shaky start from Hiroki Ito, who was making his first competitive start for Bayern at the Allianz Arena, defended resolutely and did well to cover for each other. During his 63-minute stay on the pitch Ito not only held his own defensively, but also became the first Japanese player to score for Die Roten when he tapped in his side’s second goal just after the hour mark.
