Birmingham City have announced the news that defender Siobhan Wilson has retired from playing professional football.

The Blues confirmed the player’s decision via a post on their official club website this evening.

The 30-year-old full-back has enjoyed a seven-year senior playing career. Wilson started her career in Spain with Málaga before enjoying a short spell with Italian club Sassuolo. In 2019, Wilson returned to England where she joined Charlton Athletic. The player has since turned out for Crystal Palace, Birmingham City and Southampton.

On her day, Wilson has been one of the finest wide players in the English second tier. Her versatility has allowed her to make a positive impact at both ends of the pitch, something which has been a real benefit to her clubs. Wilson’s presence on second tier football pitches will certainly be missed next season.

After opting to hang up her boots, Wilson said “This has honestly been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. Football will always be a part of me but I’m excited for the future and to see what this next chapter holds.”

Wilson is the 13th first team player to leave Birmingham City since the end of the season.
