The Rovers boss wants to bring up to three players in prior to the end of the window
Blackburn Rovers head coach John Eustace wants to make up to three new signings over the next eight days before the winter window closes as he seeks to end his side's recent run of poor form in the race for the play-offs.
Eustace has done a stellar job at Ewood Park this season, with his side currently sitting in seventh place in the Championship despite a summer window that saw them lose their most influential player in Sammie Szmodics, and then bring in mostly loan players and free transfers.
His success has come as a pleasant surprise to Blackburn supporters, but a similar story to that of Jon Dahl Tomasson may be coming to fruition this winter, with no money invested into incomings as yet this month, despite a real chance to finish in the top six this season.
With Adam Forshaw signed on a free transfer from Plymouth Argyle, as well as Birmingham City centre-back Dion Sanderson on loan, there have been fears raised by Blackburn supporters that, without proper investment in the coming week, Eustace could become unsettled and seek pastures new.
He has previously spoken of his desire to see the club bring in more players to improve his squad, after seeing it stretched to its limit in games gone by, and despite fans' concerns, the Rovers boss is clearly expecting support in the market from the board before the February 3 deadline, following his new revelations around potential incomings.
Rovers' best run of form came around November and December, as they won six games in a row to rise up the table into the play-off race, but their recent results have been far from ideal, with three consecutive league losses, and just one Championship win in their last nine outings.
Their last game culminated in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Bristol City, following Nahki Wells' late winner at Ashton Gate, and boss Eustace spoke to BBC Radio Lancashire in the aftermath of the loss about what he wants to see happen in the transfer window over the next week.
Eustace said: "The spirit the boys showed was outstanding - we had a couple more drop out just before kick-off. The group showed great spirit and togetherness and i thought we were really good today.
"We want to be competitive and play our style of football and against a good team be difficult to play against and I thought we were.
"I certainly don't think we deserved to lose the game but its getting a bit of a broken record and it's important we just stick together and keep performing like that.
"When we get a few more players back from injury, and hopefully we can bring two or three good quality players into the group as well - things will change."
For Rovers to lose Eustace anytime soon would be a disaster, as he has taken the club from relegation trouble last May to genuine promotion contenders this season on a shoestring budget, and also amid recent injury issues.
With that said, he needs to be backed in this window with investment in new signings, and Blackburn CEO Steve Waggott has recently shared an update to BBC Lancashire on their business this month, which could well relax fears of a Eustace exit if what he has said comes to fruition over the next eight days.
"We all continue to try and improve the squad by securing players during this transfer window who are the right level and who will be a good fit for the current closely knit group of players as John (Eustace) obviously wants to keep intact the togetherness of the squad," a statement from Waggott read.
"The aim has always been to look at improving the attacking threat of the team but with injuries that have been sustained since the turn of the year we are now also looking at other potential positions and available options until our injured players return to full fitness. Hopefully, some of the injured players will become available for selection over the next few weeks.
"As is always the case during this very limited January winter window, most clubs are looking for the same areas of improvement but we will continue to pursue our list of targets in the hope that we can secure players to add strength and depth to this hard-working and honest group of players for the remainder of the season."
Whether what Waggott has promised comes to fruition remains to be seen, but it is pretty clear after the last three games that Rovers are in real need of fresh faces to help their existing players.
The reality is that Rovers could well face another head coach exit if Eustace is not given what he wants over the remainder of the window, which would not only be a huge blow to the club, but also to the reputation of Waggott and the club's owners, the Venky's.
