Manchester United could stand a chance at landing Jamie Gittens next summer, as Borussia Dortmund could find themselves in a delicate spot.

The 20-year-old is a left winger who started his career at Reading’s academy before joining Manchester City’s ranks. The youngster was then poached by BVB on a free transfer in the summer of 2020, as the Bundesliga giants managed to replicate Jadon Sancho’s coup.

The London native has now emerged as a protagonist for Dortmund, cementing himself as a regular starter. This season, he has thus far contributed with 11 goals and five assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.

The young winger is now widely expected to earn his senior debut for England under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel, while a host of Premier League clubs are keen to bring him back home, including Man United and Liverpool.

According to Bundesliga insider Christian Falk, a summer transfer could be on the cards, especially if Dortmund fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.

“We have to keep an eye on Jamie Gittens. If Dortmund doesn’t reach the Champions League, I think they will have to sell him,” revealed the German journalist in his latest column for The Daily Briefing.

Dortmund currently lie 11th in the table. They endured a rough start to the season under young manager Nuri Sahin which prompted his sacking last month. Niko Kovac has arrived as a replacement and is looking to spark a swift uprising.

Moreover, Falk believes Gittens’ future could be intertwined with Mathys Tel’s. The Frenchman recently sealed a loan move from Bayern Munich to Spurs, but he remains a target for Man United.

“Bayern are interested, though I’m not sure if they would be prepared to spend their money on him. If they manage to sell Tel – and don’t move for Nkunku – there’s a chance. Otherwise, it’ll be difficult.”
