On Friday, the 21st of March — day three of the international break — there were more games for Borussia Dortmund overseas players, after an underwhelming day of action on Thursday.

How Borussia Dortmund's international stars did on Thursday

To begin, Ramy Bensebaini was in action for Algeria, as they faced Botswana in African World Cup qualifiying. For this game, the Dortmund defender started at centre back in a flat back four.

Just one minute before half time, Algeria took the lead. Seven minutes after the break, they doubled their lead. With twenty minutes remaining, Botswana got one back — but within a couple of minutes, Bensebaini’s side had restored their two goal advantage.

From there, Algeria were able to see the game out and come out as 3-1 victors. Bensebaini played the whole 90 minutes. This leaves them top of their qualification group, with 12 points from five games. Next up is a home game against Mozambique on Tuesday, at 22:00 CET.

Later on in the day, Gregor Kobel started for Switzerland in their friendly away to Northern Ireland. Since Yann Sommer retired from international football in the summer, the keeper has made the number one spot his own. He played 90 minutes here in a 1-1 draw, making two saves. Next up is another friendly against Luxembourg on Tuesday, the 25th of March, at 20:45 CET.

Finally, Serhou Guirassy and his Guinea side were in action, as they hosted Somalia in African World Cup qualifying. Despite Somalia being the 202nd ranked side in the world, they were held to an extremely frustrating 0-0 draw at home.

As a result of this draw, Guinea are now five points off second place - the position in the group needed to secure a qualification spot for the World Cup play-offs - albeit they are also five points off the top of their group and the automatic qualification spot. Nevertheless, this was a missed chance to put the pressure on.

Next up for Guirassy and Guinea is an away game against Uganda in another qualifier on Tuesday, the 25th of March, at 17:00 GMT.
