Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Brazil head coach Dorival Junior expressed his unhappiness over the fact that Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr. did not win the Ballon d’Or this year.

The 24-year-old Brazilian forward was seen as the overwhelming favourite to win the Golden Orb this year after the success he had with Real Madrid last season.

However, in the end, it turned out that Manchester City midfield general Rodri beat the Real Madrid ace to the prestigious award, doing so by a mere 41 points.

After having learnt the verdict, Los Blancos decided to boycott the Ballon d’Or ceremony completely with teammates, staff, and the management showing support for the Brazilian ace.

Now, Brazil manager Dorival Junior has spoken out in support of Vinicius, claiming that the Real Madrid superstar was deserving of the Ballon d’Or.

“There was a mistake by those who evaluated. Individually speaking, he was the most important, decisive and perhaps lethal player of the season,” he said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Furthermore, he added that, according to him, ‘the real winner’ of the award was Vinicius.

Praising the winger, Dorival added that Vinicius’ biggest triumph was the love and respect of all the Brazilians he had received, as he said:

“His greatest achievement is to have earned the respect of the Brazilian people.”

Continuing, the Brazil coach added that Vinicius is a player who ‘reinvents himself at all times’, who ‘went through (difficult) situations in his career’ and still ‘did not lose his status as a protagonist.’
