Brighton 3 – 2 Liverpool – Premier League Player Ratings

Following last week’s draw against Arsenal and a trip to Dubai to continue celebrations, Arne Slot flew back from Ibiza to oversee a game that carried very little consequence.

The lineup and subsequent ratings are listed below.

Video OneFootball

Alisson Becker – 7.0

The giant Brazilian stopper was steady and made one excellent save; however, he was unable to keep the result alive as he was let down by his misshapen and defensive group, which was lacking Virgil van Dijk.

Conor Bradley – 6.0

The Ireland international was energetic yet loose positionally at times as he arrived forward relentlessly. Created the opening goal for Harvey Elliott, though faded with his output in the second half.

Subbed – 78 mins

Kostas Tsimikas – 5.0

The Greek international was unable to take his opportunity and run ragged at times by some strong opposition. The end is coming for the backup fullback, and this performance was proof of that.

Ibrahima Konaté  – 6.0

The France international defender was the best defender on show and, as usual, covered acres of ground. The giant former RB Leipzig man was the leader, however, his teammates and defensive partner were unable to match his level.

Jarell Quansah – 5.0

The young academy graduate was again shown to lack the ability to defend to the level required and was only able to show good blocking capabilities, without shining in this rare start.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 7.0

The Hungarian captain was able to score a delightful second goal as he showed true enterprise to impact the game from a slightly deeper position. A good game and a real asset for the future.

Subbed – 63 mins

Ryan Gravenberch – 6.0

The versatile midfielder was solid if unspectacular as he took up reasonable positions in a misshapen midfield. The lack of a real defensive midfielder will only help the man destined to play slightly higher up the pitch.

Harvey Elliott – 7.0

The England under-21 international was able to open the scoring with a well-taken goal and an assist for the Reds’ second goal, however, he was unable to impact the play for much of the game away from the goal contributions. Effort and goal contributions will aid his desire to remain part of Liverpool’s future. A solid game in a performance that lacked many.

Man of the match

Cody Gakpo – 7.0

The Dutch attacker was productive and inventive with his play as he carried the ball instinctively. Should have assisted Mohamed Salah if not for the Egyptian King’s close-range miss. Unlucky to be substituted.

Subbed – 63 mins

Federico Chiesa – 4.0

The Italian forward was poor and ineffective in the game to forget as he struggled to bring anything positive. His last start in Liverpool Red.

Subbed – 63 mins

Mohamed Salah – 6.0

The Egyptian King was unable to capitalise on good opportunities to increase his insane season tally of goals, as he missed great chances to score and create.

Substitutions;

Darwin Núñez – 5.0 (on 63)

Came on to add another dimension.

Luis Diaz – 5.0 (on 63)

Came on to add unpredictable play.

Curtis Jones – 5.0 (on 63)

Came on to add control.

Wataru Endo – 5.0 (on 69)

Came on to add tenacity.

The Manager;

Arne Slot – 6.0

The Dutch manager picked a team that was always likely to struggle after their week of celebrations abroad.

The substitutions were unable to impact in a game that drifted away.

Steven Smith’s Pre-match Prediction;

Brighton 2 – 2 Liverpool
