Camarda reflects on ‘best day of my life’ after UCL debut: “VAR played a trick on me” | OneFootball

Francesco Camarda became the youngest Italian ever to feature in the Champions League on Tuesday evening. After the game, he spoke to the media and reflected on the ‘best day of my life’.

As a result of Tammy Abraham’s injury, and Luka Jovic not being included in the UCL list, Paulo Fonseca decided to call up Camarda for the game. The manager hinted before the game that a cameo was possible, depending on the result.

So when Milan had the lead 3-1, Camarda came on and even managed to find the back of the net. Unfortunately, it was disallowed for a narrow but correct offside. Speaking to Sky Italia (via MilanNews) after the game, Camarda shared his thoughts on the debut.

“The record makes me very proud. And it pushes me to give more to improve myself and make nights like this happen more often.”

“It was the best feeling of my life, then the VAR played a trick on me. I’m very disappointed but these things happen, especially in football these days. I want to do more.”

Is this the best day of your life, aside from the disallowed goal?

“Yes, absolutely, it is the best day of my life. I can’t find the words to describe it.”

When did you realise you could become a professional football player?

“Difficult question. I don’t know, you always dream of a night like this. You imagine it in your head, at the park. It really happened and what happens, happens.”

At the age of just 16 years and 226 days, he became the youngest Milan as well as Italian player to ever feature in the competition. He got a 6.5/10 in our player ratings for his liveliness, certainly impressing.
