Enzo Maresca praised Tyrique George for his performance against Morecambe on Saturday and is hopeful of giving him more minutes in the future.

The Blues advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup thanks to a 5-0 win against their League Two opponents as they stepped it up a level after a uninspiring first half performance.

Christopher Nkunku missed a first half penalty, before a deflected Tosin Adarabioyo strike gave Chelsea a half time lead, before the Blues scored four after the break thanks to another from Tosin, two from Joao Felix and one from Nkunku.

Maresca impressed by George

Maresca went stronger than many would have expected for the game given Morecambe are second bottom of League Two and the likes of Pedro Neto, Reece James and Romeo Lavia started, whilst there were a host of first team players on the bench.

George was handed another start, his fourth of the season and the 18-year-old put in an impressive performance as he completed the full 90 minutes and grabbed two assists in the process.

The teenager is another highly rated talent to come out of Chelsea’s academy, with Jadon Sancho a big fan of the winger.

George certainly took his chance against the League Two strugglers and impressed Maresca, who has previously praised the youngster, and the 44-year-old said he hoped he could give him more minutes in the future.

“Good, Tyrique is doing well with us,” he told his post-match press conference.

“He already played some games in the Conference League. He is the same age as Josh Acheampong, very young, so hopefully we can give them more chances and they can also become an important part of this team.”

George at best will find himself on the bench on Tuesday night as Chelsea return to Premier League action against Bournemouth.

However, with Mudryk out indefinitely he is now the fourth option on the wing for Maresca and minutes in the Premier League could come sooner than expected.
