Celtic FC striker Kyogo Furuhashi (30) has landed in Rennes to undergo a medical with Jorge Sampaoli’s Ligue 1 side, according to Foot Mercato. The 30-year-old Japan international is expected to put pen to paper over a three-and-a-half-year deal with Les Rouge et Noir, tying him to Rennes until 2028. Get French Football News can confirm that Furuhashi has flown in from Glasgow to Rennes this Thursday to undergo the first part of his medical. Barring any unexpected hiccup during said medical, the Celtic FC striker will sign his contract on Friday.
Rennes head coach Jorge Sampaoli confirmed in today’s presser that he expected Furuhashi to be eligible for Les Rouge et Noir‘s away Ligue 1 game to AS Monaco on Saturday. “We are hoping that the deal is completed today for Kyogo and if that is the case, he could have minutes against Monaco. He is a player that we really wanted and who can bring us depth,” said the former Argentina national team manager. Rennes’ outlay to sign Furuhashi could rise to €12m in taking into account performance-related add-ons.
Former Celtic FC cult hero Jota (25), who struggled to make an impact since his arrival at Rennes last summer, is expected to go the other way and bolster Brendan Rodgers’ options upfront.
