Toronto FC continues its roster-building process for the 2025 MLS season, aiming to create a more competitive squad after the disappointments of 2024. The club has already secured promising young talents, including goalkeeper Adisa De Rosario, the son of club legend Dwayne De Rosario.
His contract, which could extend until 2028, signals Toronto’s commitment to long-term development. Having already played for Toronto FC II, De Rosario’s promotion to the first team adds depth in goal while also honoring his father’s legacy.
Despite this positive step, Toronto FC’s transfer window remains quiet, raising concerns among fans. With just weeks until the MLS opener against D.C. United, supporters hope for at least one more key signing, particularly in attacking and midfield positions.
The failure to qualify for the 2024 MLS playoffs, combined with losing the Canadian Championship final, has increased pressure on the club to improve.
Meanwhile, Toronto FC’s main rival, CF Montréal, has been active in the market, signing former TFC defender Luca Petrasso. The 24-year-old fullback joins on a deal that includes options through 2027, adding another young Canadian talent to Montréal’s squad.
His move follows a stint at Orlando City, but before that, he was part of Toronto FC, where he played 23 matches for the first team before departing in 2022. Notably, Petrasso was part of the Toronto FC squad that won the 2020 Canadian Championship.
His arrival in Montréal, where his older brother Michael Petrasso once played, further intensifies the rivalry between the two clubs. As Toronto FC remains relatively inactive, seeing a former player strengthen a direct competitor only adds to the frustration of TFC supporters.
