Chelsea’s agreement to sign Sporting Lisbon duo Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo has now been officially confirmed.
Last week it was reported that the Blues had pulled off a shock deal for 17-year-old winger Quenda, one of European football’s most highly-rated young attacking talents who had been heavily linked with a reunion with former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.
That was followed by news over the weekend that Chelsea had also agreed to sign Quenda’s Sporting team-mate Essugo, the 20-year-old midfielder who is currently on a season-long loan in Spain with LaLiga strugglers Las Palmas.
Those deals have now been confirmed by Sporting, who announced in a statement to the markets on Wednesday night that the transfer of both players was worth a total of just under €74.5million (£62.4m).
Chelsea will be paying €50.77m up front for Quenda, with a further €1.36m potentially due in performance-related add-ons.
For Essugo, Sporting will receive a lump sum of €22.27m with no add-ons. Fees for intermediation services in the deals are worth €3.35m for Quenda and just under €1m for Essugo.
The Primeira Liga leaders also confirmed that Quenda would stay at the Estadio Jose Alvalade until moving to Chelsea at the end of the 2025/26 season, while Essugo will remain on loan at Las Palmas for the remainder of the current campaign as scheduled before heading to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
