Enzo Fernandez keeps being linked with a move to Real Madrid, despite a move seeming pretty unlikely on all sides.
Yesterday it was Jacob Steinberg from the Guardian who made it very clear that Chelsea weren’t going to sell Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid, today it’s the big dog himself, Fabrizio Romano.

“Chelsea believe that Enzo is a crucial player for this project,” Romano reported on his latest Youtube show.
“They are not discussing Enzo’s exit, they’re not even giving a formal price for the player. They believe that Enzo, Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer- the quality in midfield for Chelsea is elite. They believe this is one of the best midfields, for the present and the future, in Europe. So Chelsea have no intention of entertaining discussions for Enzo Fernandez.”
He then added that Madrid had not made any kind of formal offer, and that there was really nothing to this story as far as he could see.
You can see Romano speaking in the clip embedded here:
Enzo is certainly the sort of player Madrid like to sign – and we can see him both being very tempted to join, and him doing very well there. His game would actually be far better suited to the slightly slower, more spacious Spanish style than it is to the Premier League, where his lack of running power can be a weakness.
However, the finances of a potential deal just don’t work. The Spanish giants might like him, but Chelsea aren’t going to sell for anything less than the £106m they paid, and that’s beyond what Los Blancos can afford.
This report from Fabrizio Romano only confirms what we would have assumed already – there’s no chance of a deal because of the finances above all.
