Chelsea are reportedly reigniting their interest in Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, maintaining consistent communication with his representatives, according to TBR Football.

Kounde is a versatile defender who can play in a number of different positions but the right-back position is where he has been most comfortable at.

The French defender is in the headlines today for scoring the winner for Barcelona against Real Madrid in the Copa Del Rey last night.

The Blues had previously attempted to sign Kounde in 2022, but the French international opted for a move to Barcelona instead.

Kounde’s versatility, capable of playing both as a center-back and right-back, makes him an attractive target for Chelsea, especially as they look to strengthen their defense which has leaked goals for fun this season.

Arsenal have also entered the fray, reportedly preparing a £55 million bid for the 26-year-old defender.

The Gunners are keen to strengthen their backline, with manager Mikel Arteta viewing Kounde’s experience and adaptability as valuable assets.​

Barcelona, while valuing Kounde as a key player, are facing financial constraints and might consider substantial offers for the defender.

The club is also reportedly exploring options to reinforce their defense, which could influence their decision regarding Kounde’s future. ​

Ideally, the Spanish giants would love to keep the defender who has become a consistent part of their starting line up and has been instrumental in their success this season.

Liverpool have been linked with Kounde as well, though their interest appears less concrete compared to Chelsea and Arsenal. ​

The Premier League giants are also interested in bringing their former player Marc Guehi back to the club this summer from Crystal Palace.

The club’s other defensive targets are Dean Huijsen of Bournemouth and Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton.

Focusing on defensive addition shows how much Chelsea feel there is a need to strengthen the defense.
