Chelsea star undergoes surgery in another injury blow for Blues | OneFootball

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana is set for a spell on the sidelines after undergoing hamstring surgery.

The Frenchman missed two months earlier this season with a hamstring injury and has now suffered another blow having only recently returned to action.

“The club can confirm that defender Wesley Fofana has today undergone successful hamstring surgery,” he said.

“Wesley was assessed by specialists this week after the 24-year-old suffered an injury of the muscle. Following that assessment, it was concluded that an operation would be required.

“The 24-year-old will now begin his recovery and undergo rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff at Cobham over the coming weeks.

“Everyone at the club is fully focused on supporting Wesley in his recovery.”

Fofana had played just twice for the Blues since returning from his last injury.

He has struggled with injury since being signed from Leicester three years ago. He missed four months in his debut season with the club because of a knee injury and did not play at all in his second season after suffering an ACL injury.

Fofana returned to action this season and has made 14 appearances for the Blues but is now set for another spell out.

Maresca has lauded the defender’s impact this season, saying after his side’s win over West Ham back in September: “Wes is a player that I really love, I am in love with Wes.

“He is doing fantastic after one year injured and, for any player in the world, when you are out for one year and then you come back it is not easy, and he is doing top. This is the only thing we want from him.”

It now remains to be seen whether Fofana will be able to play again this season after his latest blow, with only seven games remaining of the Premier League campaign following the clash with Brentford.

Romeo Lavia is also struggling with an injury at present while Chelsea are missing Mykhailo Mudryk through suspension.
