Chelsea’s unique advantage could get them insane €22m bargain

CaughtOffside are on fire with their exclusives recently, and this one is really interesting.
They claim that Chelsea are looking to address their need for another striker by shopping very close to home – with their sister club Strasbourg. As they point out, Nicolas Jackson is inconsistent at the best of times, and has been worn out to the point of injury this season by the club’s failure to sign a competent alternative last year.
According to their sources, we’re going to look to remedy that this summer by signing Emanuel Emegha from Strasbourg.
We’re not the first Premier League team to take an interest – West Ham, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Everton have all been sniffing around him. That shows the sort of level he’s currently considered at – but given he’s got 11 goals and counting this season, we could be about to see the top teams in the league getting in on the act too.
At 22 years old, on low wages and playing for our affiliate club, you couldn’t ask for a better player to fit with our model of signings. We’d imagine we will be at the front of the queue if he keeps scoring at this rate. The fee mentioned in this piece of €22m-25m looks way too hopeful on our part. We’d be surprised to see him move for less than €40m if he ups his season tally to 15 by May.
Mamdou Sarr signing for Strasbourg
We’ve already seen the “sister club” model working out for us in the way that we can send them players to develop (Andrey Santos and Djordje Petrovic are having a great season). Now we’re seeing another positive element for Chelsea – getting first dibs on the players they themselves scout and sign. We’ve already seen a deal for Mamadou Sarr agreed for later this summer, Emegha could be next.
Strasbourg play right after Chelsea this afternoon – tune in and check this guy out.
